Abayomi is an elderly medicine woman who wanders the Death Sands, travelling from one group of nomads to the next to help her kin.

First Appearance[]

Brinsop's Brood

Description[]

Abayomi is an old woman with dark, wrinkled skin, grey hair, and bright blue eyes. Unlike other nomadic women, she does not wear a carthin. Instead, she wears a cape made of animal skins, a short tunic made of black feathers, and silver bells around her ankles. Her face is covered by a fearsome mask fitted with light crystals in the eye sockets.

Personality[]

Abayomi is a clever, wise women who has seen and experienced many things. She goes out of her way to help people in need and is very wary of elves in particular, being savvy to their true nature. Due to her role as a medicine woman, she is often lonely. A desert fox named Ojai follows her everywhere and keeps her company, acting as her dream guide.

Although she is relatively calm and composed, she is visibly afraid of Daakul when she encounters him.

Powers[]

Being a halfling, Abayomi has some unusual powers. Her magic is not especially strong compared to higher-level mages, but she has the unique ability to see past faerie glamours. She's also adept at potion-making and has some (limited) ability to speak dragon-tongue. She also has the ability to speak to certain other animals, like falcons.

Actions[]

In Brinsop's Brood, she played the role of storyteller to a group of nomads, telling them cautionary tales. When she saw Fëanor hidden behind a glamour among them, she told them a story about elves to warn the nomads in a roundabout way and to scare the elf off. After Fëanor kidnapped Sela and bound her with enchantments so he could steal Brinsop's hatchlings, Abayomi rescued her and helped Sela and Brinsop track Fëanor down.

Quotes[]

"Patience is the companion of wisdom, and wisdom comes with the ability to be still."
